Ross Martin was born Martin Rosenblatt in Grodek, Poland, on March 22, 1920, and came to the United States in his infancy. He saw his first play at the age of three. By the time he was ten, he had won the first in a series of amateur contests. At seventeen, he turned to nightclubs and vaudeville, teamed up with Bernie West, who produced "Three's Company" and "The Jeffersons."

Martin's work covered a broad spectrum both of roles and of media. He moved from radio in Washington, D.C., to New York City, where he appeared on network shows on CBS, NBC, ABC and Mutual from 1948 to 1958. After earning an M.A. and law degrees from New York University and George Washington University, he moved into stage acting. He was playing a Viennese scientist in a New York play when Hollywood first took note of the young actor and gave him his first movie role (as a Viennese astronaut) in producer George Pal's CONQUEST OF SPACE (1955).

Later film parts included THE COLOSSUS OF NEW YORK, GERONIMO with Chuck Connors, THE CEREMONY, THE GREAT RACE and EXPERIMENT IN TERROR, as an asthmatic psycho who abducts Stefanie Powers. He remains best-known, however, for his work on TV: As Artemus Gordon on THE WILD WILD WEST, Andamo on MR. LUCKY and as one of the regulars on the popular pantomime game show STUMP THE STARS.

He was married to Olavee Martin, former high-fashion model, at the time of his death, July 3, 1981. He had been nominated twice on TV as Best Actor for his work on THE WILD WILD WEST and in films as Best Supporting Actor for his work in EXPERIMENT IN TERROR.
